Bonnier Acquires U.S. Working Mother Magazine.
SEPTEMBER 2008
This week the U.S. publishing group, Bonnier Corporation, acquired Working Mother Media Inc., best known for its magazine Working Mother, and its “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” research initiative.
Working Mother is the nation’s largest multimedia company focused on the advancement of women and diversity, and as such, is a neat fit with Bonnier’s current portfolio of parental titles, which includes Babytalk and Parenting magazines.
Published eight times a year, Working Mother aims to help women balance their family, career and personal lives. In addition to the print publication, the company holds several prestigious conferences and events promoting the advancement of women in the work force, and provides support for the organizations Diversity Best Practices and the National Association for Female Executives.
Working Mother’s founder Carol Evans says she “couldn’t be more thrilled” with the Bonnier acquisition: “Bonnier is the perfect home for Working Mother and our membership organizations. We look forward to building our products and fulfilling our mission as champions of cultural change with the support and strength of Bonnier.”
Evans will remain with Bonnier Corp as the new president of the Working Mother group, and the publication will continue to be located in New York, with offices in Washington DC. The acquisition of Working Mother is Bonnier Corp’s first since the company was formed last year, and Bonnier Corp CEO Terry Snow says he believes that the timing was just right.
“You don’t have to go very far to find current examples for working women who are also raising families,” says Snow. “From corporate executives to teachers to entrepreneurs, these readers are not only successful at home raising a family, but at the same time are balancing challenging and rewarding professional careers.”
